Renovation of the cladding and of the exterior. Project year: 2005.
Client: Local Government
As well as having to solve some particular maintenance problems (water infiltration, dilapidated doors and windows, sewerage connections, etc.), the project proposed original aesthetic solutions for this residential complex, complying with the request of the Local Government, the Client, to “give it a facelift”. Despite having an extremely limited budget available, the idea of using plaster strips to identify the stairways and different colours for the ground floor and the first floor managed to achieve the objective. Each facade is different: some are cut in half by the communal balconies, some have windows, while some have none at all. These differences were highlighted by varying the colours at different heights, and were defined by the stringcourse which at different points reflects the main lines of each facade (the line of the first floor windowsills, the line of the communal balconies, the wall bordering the sports field).
The asymmetrical shape of the courtyard adds a sense of movement to the exterior, and has the double effect of breaking up the static appearance of the residential complex’s centralised layout and of cancelling out any point of reference which might highlight the imperfect specularity of the facades that are facing each other.
